Packing Advice from the Pros
Packing is one of the most important parts of any move. Done right, it protects your belongings and makes unpacking a breeze. Here’s our professional advice for packing like a pro:
- Use Small Boxes for Heavy Items: Books, tools, and other heavy items should go in small boxes to avoid overloading and make lifting easier.
- Large Boxes for Light Items: Use large boxes for pillows, bedding, and other lightweight items to maximize space.
- Fill Gaps with Soft Items: Prevent shifting by filling empty spaces in boxes with towels, clothing, or packing paper.
- Wrap Fragile Items Individually: Dishes, glassware, and other breakables should be wrapped separately in bubble wrap or paper for maximum protection.
- Label Boxes Clearly: Write the room and contents on each box. Mark boxes with fragile items so movers know to take extra care.
- Don’t Overpack Boxes: Keep boxes under 20kg (about 44 lbs) for safe lifting and to prevent boxes from breaking.
- Seal Boxes Securely: Use strong packing tape on the bottom and top seams of every box.
- Pack Plates Vertically: Plates are less likely to break if packed on their sides, with padding between each one.
- Bundle Cables and Small Parts: Use zip bags for screws, cables, and small parts, and tape them to the item they belong to.
- Keep Essentials Accessible: Pack a separate box or bag with essentials you’ll need right away in your new home.
